| Once a small family-owned dairy farm, the park is laced with two and one-half miles of nature trails. The land encompasses 104 acres of wooded hills and grassy fields bisected by streams, a two acre pond, wet meadows, and an upland swamp. The site is a wonderful microcosm of a typical Connecticut landscape which provides sanctuary to many species of New England flora and fauna. A butterfly/hummingbird garden and an award-winning woodland wildflower and fern garden graces the visitor center. |

| 3. Elizabeth Park (West Hartford)

| The City hired the landscape firm of Olmsted and Son to design the park and the park shows the trademark Olmsted vistas of overlooks above expanses of meadows, fields and water. The City hired Theodore Wirth as its first park superintendent to design the garden areas. Mr. Wirth's first project was to create a rose garden because, in his words, "it would please the people." This first planting grew from 100 bushes to the two and a half acre garden of some 15,000 bushes that is the center piece of Elizabeth Park and is known throughout the world.Today the park encompasses 102 acres and boasts many garden areas, pathways, greenhouses, lawns, a picnic grove, a pond and recreation areas. |

4. Garden of Ideas (Ridgefield)

| The Garden of Ideas is a quintessential American garden located in western Connecticut (USA). Visitors are welcome seasonally on weekends and by appointment. | 8. The Connecticut College Arboretum

| The Arboretum is open everyday, dawn to dusk, and serves as park for the surrounding communities. Dog walkers, parents with young children, and office workers out for a quiet lunch break are all frequent users.Visitors to the Native Plant Collection will find a notice board and a free self-guided tour brochure at the main entrance on Williams Street. Additional information is available at the Arboretum Office in 103 Olin Science Center directly north of the main college entrance from Rt. 32. For visitors arriving after office hours, a variety of informational brochures are available on a rack outside the office door. |

| 10. The Sundial Gardens (Haddam)

| THE SUNDIAL is a unique setting of Formal Gardens, Tea and Gift Shop located in the Higganum section of Haddam. Founded in 1976, the formal gardens include a Persian-style knot garden, an 18th century style garden with geometric walkways, and a topiary garden with boxwood, roses and ivy garlands surrounding a fountain. These architectural gardens, or "outdoor rooms" are carefully incorporated into the landscape around a restored 18th century farm house. Fee is a $2 donation per person. |
